We close the 19th Bangalow Music Festival 2022 with a dreamy program of vivid imagery, vibrant colours and nostalgic memories. Emma McGrath and Simon Tedeschi treat us to Debussy’s final work, his poignant Violin Sonata that mixes darkness and light with beauty and sensuality. Southern Cross Soloists take to the stage once again to perform Lachlan Skipworth’s bright and lively Oboe Quartet, written in memory of Anne and Alan Blanckensee and Debussy’s atmospheric and shimmering soundscape of the sea, La Mer. To close the festival, baroque meets tango and jazz, with a delicious fugue, sumptuous melody and final tango in Fuga y Misterio and Libertango by Piazzolla. DEBUSSY Violin Sonata L.140~ SKIPWORTH Oboe Quartet DEBUSSY La Mer (The Sea) L.109, CD.111(arr. Romance, chivalry and midnight madness feature in this ‘high drama’ program of illustrious, but misplaced, gallantry and heroism. Virtuoso coloratura soprano, Alexandra Flood promises to thrill with her extraordinary vocal techniques in two iconic Donizetti arias. Opening with Norina’s aria from comic opera, Don Pasquale, which pokes fun at an unsuspecting gallant knight that Norina has used her expert charms on, Alexandra will also perform the most challenging of all coloratura arias, Lucia’s Mad Scene from Lucia di Lammermoor. SXS will perform Mozart’s witty Kegelstatt Trio (named after Mozart’s favourite game of skittles) for clarinet, viola and piano. The second half of the program explores the 17th century tale of Don Quixote: The Ingenious Nobleman Mister Quixote of La Mancha. American Baritone, Alexander York takes on the role of Don Quixote, in works inspired by this enigmatic tale by Ravel, Strauss, Ibert, De Falla and Leigh/Darion’s Man of La Mancha.

Southern Cross Soloists open the 19th Bangalow Music Festival with an effervescent French-inspired program of lightness, fluidity and colour – all the characteristics of a glass of fine French Champagne. In a program that sparkles with both brilliance and delicate finesse, the concert starts with Ravel’s vibrant and radiant La Tombeau de Couperin. Guest coloratura soprano, Alexandra Flood, graces the stage with four sumptuous French arias by Debussy, Reynaldo Hahn and Fauré. The final piece of the concert sets the scene for the rest of our sparkling 2022 Festival program with Ravel’s whirling and bubbly La Valse. SXS are also joined by cello soloist, Jonathan Békés and piano soloist, Vatche Jambazian for the 2022 festival. RAVEL Le Tombeau de Couperin M.68 HAHN L’Heure Exquise* FAURÉ Notre amour Op.23, No.2* DEBUSSY Ariettes Oublies*: No.1 “C’est l’extase” No.4 “Chevaux de bois” FINSTERER Ignis* RAVEL La Valse M.72 (arr.
